This essay proposes a reflection on the importance of developing skills in addition and subtraction of fractions in the teaching-learning process of mathematics. A methodology is proposed that includes the use of active strategies and digital resources to motivate students and improve their understanding and application of these concepts. In addition, some previous studies on motivation in learning mathematics and the quantitative meaning of fractions for Mexican elementary students are mentioned. An overview of how the use of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) can be tools in the teaching of mathematics can have a significant impact on the development of skills in addition and subtraction of fractions is briefly presented. The document intends to glimpse general aspects that, in the teaching exercise, due to daily life, can be overlooked and that can be part of sustainable information to improve the teaching of addition and subtraction of fractions and promote the learning of mathematics in a fun and effective.
