Book publishing workflow

JLA Ediciones follows a traceable process for the selection, assessment, production and publication of academic and scholarly books. Proposals are received through three annual calls and assessed against editorial and scholarly quality criteria, peer review and research integrity standards.

01 · Call and admissibility

Submission and preliminary assessment

Entry into assessment depends on documentary compliance, thematic relevance, and the scholarly and technical feasibility of the proposal.

Step 01 · Submission

Proposal submission

The manuscript is submitted during one of the three annual calls in Word (.docx) or plain-text (.txt) format, according to its source.

  • Complete manuscript.
  • Authorship and affiliation details.
  • Synopsis, abstract and keywords.
  • Required editorial and ethical declarations.

Step 02 · Editorial screening

Admissibility and suitability

The editorial team verifies documentary completeness, alignment with JLA Ediciones' publishing scope and the overall feasibility of the work.

02 · Scholarly assessment

Quality, originality and integrity

Admissible works are assessed against editorial and scholarly quality criteria informed by the SciELO model and through specialist research-integrity screening.

Step 03 · Scholarly appraisal

Scholarly assessment

The work is assessed for relevance, originality, conceptual coherence, methodological robustness, source traceability and contribution to its field of knowledge.

Step 04 · Research integrity

Textual matches and AI use

The manuscript is screened to identify textual similarities, potential plagiarism, unverifiable references and indicators of content generated or modified using artificial intelligence.

Editorial principle: automated results provide indicators for specialist review; on their own, they do not constitute conclusive evidence of plagiarism or inappropriate use of artificial intelligence.

03 · Peer review and decision

Peer review especializados

Each work is assessed by peer reviewers selected according to its discipline and subject area. Edited volumes may undergo an overall assessment as well as chapter-specific reviews.

Peer-review recommendation

Reviewers assess the contribution, theoretical and methodological consistency, organisation of the work, and the quality of its findings or arguments.

Step 06 · Response and decision

Revisions and editorial decision

Authors submit a revised version and a response matrix. On the basis of the peer-review recommendations and ethical compliance, the Editorial Board issues its final decision.

04 · Formalisation and production

From accepted manuscript to published book

Scholarly acceptance precedes the formalisation of publication and remains separate from the commissioning of editorial services.

Step 07 · Formalisation

Proposal and publishing agreement

JLA Ediciones presents the technical and financial proposal, included services, production schedule, publication format and the responsibilities of each party.

Step 08 · Editing

Copy-editing and standardisation

The work undergoes copy-editing, stylistic editing, standardisation of citations and references, review of visual materials and metadata preparation.

Step 09 · Book design

Typesetting and cover design

The official template is applied during typesetting and adapted to the technical, methodological, disciplinary and visual requirements of each book.

Step 10 · Proof control

Final review and approval

Authors review the editorial proof. The work proceeds to publication once outstanding issues have been corrected and the final version has been approved.

05 · Identification and publication

Registration, DOI and scholarly circulation

The publication includes persistent identifiers and standardised metadata to support discovery, citation, retrieval and preservation.

Complete book Receives an ISBN, an individual DOI, editorial metadata and a dedicated page within the platform.
Edited volumes The book receives a DOI, while each chapter also receives its own DOI and authorship metadata.

Submission of a proposal does not imply acceptance. The publication decision depends on documentary compliance, scholarly assessment, integrity screening, peer-review recommendations and the final decision of the JLA Ediciones Editorial Board.
