Sinopsis

Education, Equity and Development: Economics of Education and Social Mobility reúne una serie de análisis orientados a comprender la interacción entre educación, desarrollo económico, equidad y movilidad social desde una perspectiva multidisciplinaria. La obra examina los principales desafíos que enfrentan los sistemas educativos contemporáneos en contextos de profundas transformaciones sociales y económicas, cuestionando la premisa de que la expansión de la escolarización garantiza, por sí misma, el desarrollo y la reducción de las desigualdades.
A través de cuatro capítulos, el libro aborda la economía de la educación, el fenómeno de la inflación educativa y la credencialización, las desigualdades estructurales en el acceso y permanencia educativa, las oportunidades de financiamiento mediante programas de becas y la relación entre la educación superior y el mercado laboral. El análisis incorpora fundamentos teóricos provenientes de la economía, la sociología y las políticas públicas, complementados con evidencia empírica, estudios de caso y análisis estadísticos que permiten comprender la complejidad de los procesos educativos en América Latina y otros contextos internacionales.
La obra constituye una contribución dirigida a investigadores, docentes, responsables de políticas públicas y estudiantes de educación, economía y ciencias sociales interesados en comprender el papel estratégico de la educación para promover sociedades más equitativas, competitivas y sostenibles. Su enfoque crítico y sustentado en evidencia posiciona este volumen como un referente para el estudio de las relaciones entre capital humano, desarrollo y justicia social.

Biografía del autor/a

Erika Ochoa-Rosas, Universidad de Guadalajara

Candidate Researcher in Mexico's National System of Researchers (Sistema Nacional de Investigadores, SNI). She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Research and Innovation, a Master's degree in Higher Education, and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology, all from the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), Mexico. She also completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Guadalajara.

Dr. Ochoa Rosas has coordinated several scholarly books on education and public policy and is the author of numerous peer-reviewed articles. She has presented her research at national and international academic conferences. Her research interests focus on educational innovation, educational policy, higher education, and the economics of education.

She is a member of the Society for the Advancement of Behavioral Economics (SABE), the Spanish Association for the Economics of Education (Asociación de Economía de la Educación, AEDE), and the Mexican Council for Educational Research (Consejo Mexicano de Investigación Educativa, COMIE).

Throughout her academic career, she has served as a university lecturer and teacher trainer, contributing to professional development initiatives in higher education. Her work has been recognized through several prestigious awards, including Woman of the Year 2025 in the Education category, conferred by the Southern Women Leaders Association; the ANUIES Honorable Mention Award for the Best Doctoral Dissertation (2023); and the Research Excellence Medal (2023) awarded by the Consorcio de Oriente.

Rafael Salvador Espinosa-Ramírez, Universidad de Guadalajara

Holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of Guadalajara (UdeG), Mexico, a Master's degree in Economics from the Center for Research and Teaching in Economics (CIDE), Mexico, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Essex, United Kingdom. He also earned a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Baja California, Mexico, and completed undergraduate and graduate studies in Theology.

He is a Professor and Researcher in the Department of Economics at the University of Guadalajara, where he currently serves as Head of the Department of Quantitative Methods. He is a Level II Researcher in Mexico's National System of Researchers (Sistema Nacional de Investigadores, SNI).

Previously, Dr. Espinosa Ramírez served as Director of the Center for Social and Economic Research (CISE) at the University of Guadalajara. From 2000 to 2002, he was Director of the Socioeconomic Area at the International Institute of Governance in Barcelona, Spain, where he led analyses of the economic environment of Latin American countries. He also coordinated the Master's Program in Economics and the Master's Program in International Economic Relations and Cooperation, both at the University of Guadalajara.

He has been a Visiting Professor at the University of the Basque Country, the University of Vic, and the University of Barcelona, Spain.

Dr. Espinosa Ramírez is the author of 12 books, more than 35 articles published in international peer-reviewed journals, and 15 book chapters, primarily in the fields of economics, economic development, public policy, and applied economic analysis. His research interests include economic development, the economics of education, public policy, quantitative methods, and socioeconomic analysis.
